Thank you to Stephanie of BeKindRewrite for her Inspiration Monday written prompts. I chose the last prompt and decided to write a Tanka poem for it. Please visit her blog and join in. You will find inspiration there!

I hope this visual paternity test doesn’t contradict what her mother says… 🙂
Sweet and light. Nice.
Hehehe, me too!
Thanks, Kay.
I love your Tankas! I can’t believe I never heard of Tanka poetry until you began writing it and it is a lovely form. This one is also sweet, funny, and usually what family does with children “oh, she has Harry’s nose and Lucy’s eyes, and great-grandma’s chin, doesn’t she?” Like a kid shows the entire family tree in their smiles.
I remember as a child I looked exactly like my mother, like a mini-mom, and as I got older I began looking more and more like my dad. Now I have a good mix, definitely do not need a paternity test in my case LOL
So true, Marita. And each side of the family wants to claim the gene pool pass-down.
Did you ever notice that as we get older, we resemble specific folks in our families more and more?
Yes, in both looks AND personality!
Love this! So adorable.
Thanks, Stephanie.
[…] Char […]
This is nice, Char. And you found the cutest image to portray it!
Thanks, Patti. I do love the photo but was so unclear about what I could and could not do with photos, I was so relieved when Indigo Spider answered my email. Phew! We don’t want to step on the wrong toes or do the wrong thing, either.
Glad you enjoyed it!
A good tanka, but on a subject I never comment on!!
Well, then, we will leave the secrets (and the comments) to the milkman! LOL.
great one.. my nose gives me away as well.. at least thats what im told.. 😀
Isn’t it amazing how our genes speak!
Thank you for your visit.
A great piece! I have never heard of Tanka poetry till now. Thank you for that new insight.
i am actually quite new to poetry. Tanka, Senryu and Haikui. I like it because I am very long-winded and this forces me to think differently.
Thanks you for stopping by.
this is very sweet.
sigh, love kids.
Kids are fun and they certainly keep us real. Sounds like you enjoy your kids. I am glad. They grow up way TOO fast!
So many ways this prompt could go—the simple way you chose to represent it is perfect—there’s a lot in those five lines. Not so simple after all.
Maybe sometimes both sides want to claim the gene-pool pass down—but just as often not, I imagine.
And sometimes I catch a glimpse of a very disliked biological family member in the mirror, always an unpleasant shocker—and just when I’m convinced we can’t possibly be related!
Thank you, Debra for your comments and the visit.
You are right…and I didn’t even think about it, but the the gene-pool pass down sometimes isn’t wanted!
When I look in the mirror, I often see one that I love looking back at me. That doesn’t mean I want that exact physical trait I see popping up, either. LOL.
